With Over 35 Years Experience
My name is John Heritage, married and living in Hamilton. My wife, Josie, is a foot care specialist with her own business here in Hamilton.
I originally qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and for roughly 30 years specialized in Wills, Trusts and the administration of deceased person’s estates. I’ve also practiced as a financial adviser for over 35 years obtaining the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate and ultimately qualifying as a Certified Financial Planner. All my qualifications were obtained in the UK, but I’ve been working as a financial adviser here in NZ since 2002 and now specialize in personal and business insurance.
In New Zealand I am a member of the Professional Advisers Association (PAA), a Registered Financial Adviser (FSP No: 9003) and I am bound by their code of conduct, which requires me to undertake regular training and refresher courses in order to stay up to date with markets and products. I have previously served on the committee of the Waikato branch of the Institute of Financial Advisers.
Not being tied to any specific company leaves me free to consider the whole market and recommend whichever products I consider are most suitable for each particular client’s needs. My advice is always given in writing and backed up by independent research so you can make a fully informed decision.
The vast majority of new clients come as referrals from existing clients or from other professionals, which I believe speaks for itself.
You get your car checked over every year by an expert – for peace of mind and to make sure it’s still up to the job. Well – it’s just as important to have your insurance policies checked over by an expert as well, to make sure they’re fit for purpose and will pay out when the time comes. Because claim time is too late to find out. With 35 years’ experience I know that some policies, particularly those sold by banks or bought online, leave a lot to be desired. They have far too many ifs and buts, too many restrictions and exclusions so are stacked in favour of the insurance company. Despite that they are often at the top end in terms of cost.
Nobody wants to pay more for their insurance than they need to – especially for a second rate policy – so why not let me check yours out to see how it stacks up? I will compare your policy(s) with the competition and prepare a short written report, which will be entirely confidential and personalized to you.
It will either:
confirm that you can give yourself a pat yourself on the back because you already have a great policy - or
point out the areas where your policy could cause you problems and/or whether I can save you money. If either of these applies I will also recommend a better alternative that you can take up – or not – your choice.
My service doesn't end after your policy has been arranged but continues for as long as you remain my client. I will contact you every year, just to make sure your policy still meets your needs and will also help you deal with any claims. I also encourage you to contact me if your situation alters or whenever you have any queries or concerns. My advice comes with the benefit of over 35 years experience, which you will not get if you buy online.
